Playoffs: Game 1
2011-08-29 08:36:09
The Sox began their quest for their first league championship with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Classics to start their first round playoff match up on the right note. The Sox played excellent defense behind the great efforts of Marc Geddes on the mound. Turning not one but two double plays to escape threatening innings. Offensively the Sox where in tough against a strong pitching performance by The Classics. However, the Sox managed to get some timely hitting from Jason Clayfield (2-3, 1 RBI) and Jeff Laythorpe (2-3, 1 HR, 2 R) to help put them over the top. Jeff Kolb, Alan Taylor and Chris Schuett also picked up hits in the victory. The Sox will look to close out the best of three opening round series with Game 2 slated to go Monday.

Game 1: Won 2-1 over Classics; Jeff Laythorpe MVP

July and August
2011-08-29 08:30:21
The Sox went on an impressive tear through the league in the month of July going a scorching 6-2 over their eight games during the month. Even the two losses that they suffered during July where close as the fell in both games by one run. The Sox then fell a bit flat during their only two games of the month of August and finished in third in the ultra competitive black division. This earned the Sox yet another playoff appearance against their playoff foes The Classics (2010 KFL champions).

The Sox also partook in the annual Desboro tournament. Having found success their in the past couple of years, the Sox were looking to duplicate their winning ways. They went a very strong 4-1 over the weekend in taking home the B division championship. Leading the way for the Sox on the weekend was Marc Geddes with some dominating performances on the mound. His battery mate Jason Clayfield lead the offense hitting a pedestrian like .600 for the weekend. The Sox are hoping to carry these winning ways over the playoffs as they start their quest for their first league championship.

Week Eight
2011-07-04 09:36:21
The Sox snapped their three game losing streak as their bats came alive in both games they played during this week. The Sox picked the win when they met the Kings with a lopsided score of 16-3. Leading the offense out of their early season slumber where Jeff Kolb with a triple, homerun, and six RBI in the game. Jason Clayfield and Al Taylor chipped in as well with Clayfield going an astonishing 5 for 5 and Taylor following that up with a 4 for 4 night. Larry Cox picked up the victory with a workman's like effort. The following night the Sox kept up the offensive output with a 11-7 victory over Bell Cartage. Jeff Laythorpe lead the offensive charge going 4 for 5 and Al Taylor continued his offensive dominance with another 3 for 4 night. Marc Geddes chucked the entire game picking up nine strike outs in his seven innings of work.

Game 12: Won 11-7 over Bell Cartage; Larry Cox MVP

Week Seven
2011-06-22 13:18:45
The only game on the schedule this week was a hard-fought pitchers duel that the Sox came out behind on. Marc Geddes pitched a nine strikeout, three-hit seven innings matched against a six strikeout, one hit performance from the Cardinals pitcher. The Sox had the 1-0 lead going into the seventh, gave up three, and couldn't get any more in the bottom.

Game 10: Lost 3-1 to Cardinals; Marc Geddes MVP

Week Six
2011-06-20 14:31:22
This week saw the Sox taking on one new team, and one team with a new name. The new look Red Sox (formerly Wizards) gave the Black Sox a jolt cashing eight runs when the Black Sox could only manage three. On the heels of that disappointing loss, the Black Sox took a loss the very next night to the New Dundee Dodgers. The game was shortened due to two Black Sox player ejections causing the game to end at a 3-1 Dodgers advantage.

Game 8: Lost 8-3 to Red Sox; Scott Robinson MVP
Game 9: Lost 3-1 to New Dundee Dodgers; Larry Cox MVP

Mitchell Mets Tournament
2011-06-15 10:56:12
The Black Sox entered their first tournament of the year in Mitchell at the annual Mitchell Mets affair. The Black Sox entered the recreational division and were set to face the Walton Brewers, Rannoch Rebels, and Mt. Elgin Mets in pool play.
They lost a tough battle against a solid Brewers squad 1-0 with the winning run coming in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday night.
Saturday afternoon saw another bottom of the seventh loss 4-3 to the Rebels. This spelled the end of the Sox tournament life with no chance to advance to the semi-finals.
Saturday evening saw the Sox go down 5-0 to the Mt. Elgin Mets only to show some heart and come back for the 6-5 victory.
It was a disappointing showing with the Black Sox showing very little life in their bats.

A thanks to pick-ups Doug Hoffman and Kevin Ryrie of the Selects, and Justin Krulicki of the Cardinals who helped the Black Sox round out their roster for the weekend and were all great additions.

Week Five
2011-06-15 10:49:36
This week saw the Sox taking on two new additions to the KFL. The Sox beat the Puslinch Phillies 8-4 followed by Ohsweken Speedway Thunder 11-4. The wins boded well for the Sox who planned on participating in their first tournament the following weekend.

Game 7: Won 11-4 over Ohsweken Speedway Thunder; Jeff Kolb MVP

Week Four
2011-06-15 10:41:10
Week four saw two tough opponents. The Black Sox narrowly beat a short roster of the Classics 2-1. The following night lost handily to the Diamond Jaxx 10-0. The Sox couldn't get anything going offensively, and booted the ball around enough to allow too many Jaxx runs too quickly.

Game 4: Won 2-1 over Classics; Marc Geddes MVP
Game 5: Lost 10-0 to Diamond Jaxx; Al Taylor MVP

Week Three
2011-06-15 10:39:04
Only one of the two scheduled games were played this week (and that one was rain-shortened). It saw a loss to the Bulldogs in a lack-lustre hitting performance by the Black Sox.

Game 3: Lost 4-1 to Bulldogs; Matt Taylor MVP

Week Two
2011-06-15 10:37:57
Both scheduled games in week two were washed out due to heavy rains. In fact, the entire KFL schedule was postponed for the week. These two games have already been rescheduled for July.

Week One
2011-06-15 10:37:19

Game 1: Won 11-2 over Barons; Marc Geddes MVP
Game 2: Won 4-3 over Selects: Jeff Kolb MVP

New Season
2011-05-09 15:08:11
After a disappointing exit from the playoffs last year, followed by a disappointing showing in the OCC tournament, the Black Sox have shaken off the snow and are ready for a new season to begin this week.

There are some new faces that will be added to the roster page shortly, and one returning one. Conversely, we've seen some players that have moved on. Cory Bluhm, Steven Jenereaux, and Shayne Riepert have all decided to move onto other things and will be missed.

The season kicks off Wednesday night at the KFL's expansion venue, New Dundee. Watch for more updates and formal introductions to the roster additions.

Round 2, Game 1
2010-09-13 10:07:55
Like the in first round, the Sox dropped the opening game in their best of three series with the Classics 7-4. Larry Cox was the tough luck loser on the mound as the normally steady defense for the Sox let him down committing too many errors against the Classics offense which capitalized on their opportunities. The Sox bats were held to just six hits as a team and three of them came from Jason Clayfield who has been on fire, picking up five hits in his past two games. Clayfield also knocked in two runs and scored another. Jeff Laythorpe had the other two RBI for the Sox with his pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the sixth on the first pitch he saw. Jeff Kolb and Al Taylor had the other two hits for the Sox.

Game MVP: Jason Clayfield
Line of the Night: Jason Clayfield - 3 for 3, 2 RBI, 1 R

The Sox will be looking to overcome their Goliath and advance to their first KFL finals in franchise history.

Regular Season: Black Sox swept the season series winning both games 8-1 and 6-2.

On to the semis
2010-09-02 12:38:46
The Sox are making a return visit to league semi finals with their 3-1 game three victory over the Reds. The Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead early and didn't look back to clinch the victory. Marc Geddes was his usually stellar self on the mound going seven strong innings while fanning six batters giving him eighteen strikeouts in fourteen innings pitched in the playoffs so far. Offensively the Sox were lead by the brilliant bat of Tim Bartram who went three for three with two singles and a double to round out his perfect night. Jason Clayfield also chipped in with two hits (both doubles) and knocking in two runners to provide the team with the runs they needed to cap the victory. Geddes helped his own cause by hitting another towering home run that proved to be the exclamation point on night. The Sox as a team notched eleven hits with Chris Schuett, Alan Taylor, Marc Geddes, and Tim Bartram all collecting two hits a piece. Rounding out the hit parade were Cory Bluhm, Chris Dietrich, and Jeff Laythorpe. The Sox have forced a decisive game three which will be played on Tuesday, August 31st at 9pm on Budd 1. Round 1, Game 1
2010-08-25 20:02:48
The Sox dropped the first game of the second season in an 8-2 loss to the surging Reds. The Sox who had just recently completed a dreadful weekend in Desboro could not muster anything offensively against the Reds starting pitcher Derek Mitchell, as evidenced by the six hits that the team collected with only one of them going for extra bases. On the mound, Larry Cox struggled to find consistency while not gaining much from the plate umpire. Luckily the Sox will get another chance at the Reds as the opening round is a best of three series.

Game MVP: Chris Schuett

The Sox also sported the second best defense in the league surrendering forty-one runs all season while backing up the stellar defense with the third best offense in the league having 123 runners cross the plate this season. With the Sox winning the Red Division, they will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs while opening their first round series against the bottom seed in the Black Division.

Sox not fazed by Wizards magic
2010-08-25 19:45:49
The Sox bounced back from their fourth loss of the season with a commanding 9-4 victory over the Wizards. In what turned out to be the battle for first place overall in the KFL, the Sox dropped an ugly one in their 9-3 loss to the upstart Cardinals. The Sox jumped out to an early 2-0 lead to start the game thanks to a double by Jeff Kolb. However, the Cards came storming back and capitalized on a few walks and errors committed by the Sox. The errors would prove to be too much for the Sox to overcome and thus closing their chance to finish first overall in the KFL. The offense was lead by Jeff Kolb who had a double and two stolen bases. Tim Bartram, Chris Schuett, Marc Geddes, and Alan Taylor also collected hits for the team.

Leading the way offensively for the Sox was Tim Bartram who went 3-4 on the night while scoring two runs and notching three RBI. Chris Dietrich and Jeff Laythorpe also had multi-hit games, with Dietrich picking up his first home run of the year. Both players also scored twice along with Chris Schuett and Shayne Riepert. It was Riepert who picked up the victory on the mound pitching three scoreless innings in relief behind yet another strong performance by Larry Cox.

Sox blank Preds
2010-07-15 13:33:48

For Steve, the tater was his first of the year and one of his four RBI on the night. While Geddes is now tied for second in the league with fellow Sox Jeff Kolb with three on the year. Team effort earns tenth victory
2010-07-11 19:58:43
In order to succeed in the game of baseball, you need a full team effort and that's what the Sox got in their game against the Diamond Jaxx. Trailing early, the Sox didn't let that get them down as they chipped away with timely hitting, great defense, and stellar pitching in scoring six unanswered runs on their way to the 6-2 victory. Larry Cox started the game and kept the Sox in the game with his pinpoint pitching leaving many of the Jaxx batters guessing at what was coming next. Marc Geddes came in for the final two innings of the game to shut the door as the combo of Cox and Geddes proved to be too much once again for opposing batters. It was Shayne Ripert, who's been swinging a hot bat lately, picking up the timely triple plating two that put the game out of hand. Like several times this season, the Sox opened up the scoring by putting up three runs in the first inning. Unfortunately though, their defense let them down by committing a few errors that would lead to Bell's four runs throughout the game. Marc Geddes was the hard luck pitcher in chucking all eight innings while fanning nine and only surrendering two earned runs. Jeff Laythorpe led the Sox offensively with two of their eight hits while Steve Jenereaux knocked in two and Alan Taylor contributed the other run. 2010-05-11 16:18:14
Due to the weather, tonight's game against the Cardinals has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for a later date. Hopefully the weather will be good enough for Thursday's matchup against the Wizards.

Sox thump rival
2010-05-08 14:27:00
The Breslau Black Sox completed a perfect first week with an impressive 11-1 victory over their long time rival Reds. The offensive onslaught started early and continued throughout the rest of the game as it was never in doubt after the first inning. Leading the way for the Sox offensively was Jeff Kolb (3 for 3), Tim Bartram (2 for 3), Jason Clayfield (2 for 4), and Steve Jenereaux (2 for 4, 3 RBI). Marc Geddes was impressive in his first start of the season chucking five strong innings while surrendering only two hits and striking out four. The Sox will look to continue their strong play when they take on the upstarts Cardinals and Wizards in week two.

Game MVP: Marc Geddes
Line of the night: Jeff Kolb - 3 for 3, 2 1B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB
WebGem: Entering the game late and playing a new position (2B), Chris Dietrich turned another impressive double play ranging to his right and tagging the runner moving to second, then flipping it to first to complete the play.

Aces trump Jaxx
2010-05-05 09:06:20
The Breslau Black Sox kicked off their 2010 season last night with a 6-1 victory over division foe the Diamond Jaxx and like any good poker hand they were lead by their two aces. Larry Cox and Marc Geddes combined to shut down one of the better offensive teams in the league holding the Jaxx to only three hits. This provided the Sox the chance to get a few runs and pull away with the game early. Offensively, it wasn't the Sox best game but they showed a lot of patience at the plate by walking eight times throughout the game, three to Jeff Kolb alone. Al Taylor and Tim Bartram also capitalized on the walks as their timely hits lead to five of the six runs scored by the Sox.

Game MVP: Al Taylor
Line of the night: Tim Bartram - 1 for 3, 3 RBI

Your 2010 Breslau Black Sox
2010-05-04 12:21:06
If you quickly glance over the roster for the 2010 Breslau Black Sox you will notice the same names that you have seen for the past couple of seasons. The reason behind this if for the first time in years, there was very little turnover to the roster. Gone are Corey Jackson and Jason Gillier. The only addition to this year's team though could be a huge contributor to the success of the Sox in 2010.

Al Taylor is a legend when it comes to the fastball in the K-W area. The native of New Zealand is best known for his contributions to the Waterloo Twins during their heydays of the 90's. A big part of their success was guided by the offensive prowess and leadership that Taylor provided. When Taylor approached the Sox about joining the team late last season it seemed like a no-brainer to welcome him aboard.

On the mound, the Sox will greatly benefit from a full season of Marc Geddes and Larry Cox. Larry was the veteran presence that the Sox sorely missed and was a stud during the regular season on pace to his All-star season. Cox was even more impressive in the playoffs where he shut down the Selects and gave the Sox a chance to pull off the first round upset. Geddes missed a good chunk of the season due to recovering from a back injury. When he was in game shape, he was unhittable like usual and this showed by his impressive weekend in Desboro. With these two fireballers, the Sox form one of the better pitching duos in the league. Plus keep an eye open for the emergence of Shayne Riepert who in limited action as a rookie last season showed flashes of brilliance that has the Sox salivating at the untapped potential he could provide.

At the plate, the Sox will be looking at guys like Jason Clayfield and Jeff Kolb to be the key cogs that they were during last season. If the team can get contributions from the addition of Al Taylor and some of the other players on a consistent basis, they will have the strong offense that will be very dangerous with their pitching staff.

The past couple of seasons the Sox have squeaked into the playoffs during the last week of the season. This year they hope to reverse that trend with a strong regular season and have the successful run that they are capable of in the playoffs.

Seeing Red
2010-05-02 20:16:56
The 2010 version of the Breslau Black Sox will have their hands full with the Red Division for the upcoming season. The division features two of the better offensive teams in the KFL, while also featuring one of the best pitchers. In addition, the rest of the division is filled with some young upstart teams looking to earn a seat at the playoff dinner table. The division features the Bulldogs, Classics, Diamond Jaxx, Barons, Predators, and Smoke.

The Bulldogs have given the Sox fits over the past couple of seasons. Their youth movement has transitioned this team in the right direction and has served to put the rest of the league on notice of what to expect. The Dogs have saved some of their best games for the Sox and when these two teams meet anything can happen as evidenced by some dramatic comebacks by the Sox in the past two seasons.

The Classics have to be favored as the team that everyone is gunning for in the division. This team of seasoned vets not only bring experience and wisdom to the diamond, but they also have the largest depth of any roster in the entire league. Making this team even better is the addition of South Perth all-star and ISC II vet Jay Schnarr. Combine this addition with steady stalwarts Sammy Forbes, Jodie Schnarr, Johnny Sexton, Sean Geehan, and Bob Underwood and it equals a team with a very large target on their backs in the division.

One thing for sure when you're playing the Diamond Jaxx is that if you're thinking of winning, you're going to need to score a lot of runs. This team has only been in the KFL for the past two seasons but they have left their mark as evidenced by their trip to the league finals last season. The Jaxx will be looking to show that last season was not a fluke and that they are for real.

A wild card in the division this year could be the Barons as no one has any idea of what this team might resemble. Made up of a mixture of players this team could either come out of the gates swinging or they could fumble around for a bit until they gel. Either way, don't underestimate what a team with little expectations can do.

The Predators and the Black Sox have had some epic games in the past couple of seasons. This year should be more of the same. The Predators are another young team in the league and division and are lead by the hard throwing Dan Gehl who can rake up batters with the best of them. If the Predators are looking to make the jump to the next level they will need to have the rest of the team step up and help take the load of his blazing right arm.

The final team in the division that the Sox will have to be on the look out for is the Smoke. Lead by all world pitcher Casey Halstead, the Smoke consistently will hang around long enough to have a chance to win the game. However, if the Smoke are looking to provide some fire to the league they will need to pick up the slack with the bats. One could only wonder how many more victories they would have if they could have provided more then one run.

It will be a long road to the top of the division but this year's Sox are looking forward to the challenge ahead. Stay posted tomorrow for the review of this year's Breslau Black Sox team.

Teams of the 2010 season
2010-05-01 11:43:38
As the KFL season quickly approaches, here is a preview of the league as provided by the KFL website. Stay tuned for a preview of your Breslau Black Sox and their Red Division counterparts.

Once again, the KFL will start rocking the diamond in early May. This year, May 3 is the start date and the very first game of the season will see two perennial powerhouses in the KFL go head to head. The Classics and Reds will get us started, 7pm on Budd 1. The 9pm game on that first night will be the defending champion Kings facing the sophomore Moonshiners.

The rest of the KFL will see action throughout the rest of the week so
make sure to check out the full schedule to see where you favourite teams are playing.

And speaking of teams, here is your introduction to the class of 2010.

Black division

Bell Cartage
Losing in the semi-finals to the eventual champions can be a hard pill to swallow. Especially when it followed a trip to the finals the year before. Bell is back again to try to make that final push back to the finals and maybe win a few more games once they are there.

Cardinals
Winning the B division last year just made this junior team hungrier to come back and show the rest of the league what they learned in their rookie season. A push to the A side playoffs is on their minds now.

Kings
The defending champs. Everyone in the league will be aiming for them this year so they will need to be on their toes and show the rest of the league why the finished on top.

Moonshiners
This will be their second year in the league and they will be looking to surprise a few teams. Getting knocked out in the first round of the B playoffs did not sit well with this young team so they will want to come out swinging this year. And they get that chance by facing the defending champs in their first game.

Reds
Regular season champs two years ago. Runner up league champs last year. This teams knows how to win in the regular season but the playoffs seem to be another story. First round losses, three years in a row will give the Reds all the incentive they need to place high in the regular season and carry that through the 2010 playoffs.

Selects
2010 regular season champions, lost in the semi-finals for the fourth
consecutive year. They would love to duplicate the regular season effort by finishing first and then will look to make the push past that semi-final wall they seem to hit.

Wizards
A rough regular season (0-19) was then followed by an improbable run to the B side finals. The eventually lost to the Cardinals but those late game gave them a taste of winning that they hope to continue going into 2010.

Red division

Black Sox
The Sox lost the toughest series in the first round of the playoffs last year. Barely. So they are back to get a little revenge.

Bulldogs
A staple in the KFL, the Bulldogs have bounced around between the A side playoffs and the B side playoffs year to year. They hope 2010 will be an A side year, followed closely by a run in the playoffs.

Classics
The 2008 champions were eliminated in the first round of the 2009 playoffs and that did not sit well with them. They are back again to show that the first round exit was an anomaly and the finals is where they belong.

Diamond Jaxx
Their first year in the league ended with a first round elimination. Their second year ended with a loss in the finals. In their third year with the league, the Jaxx just want to take that final step, the league championship.

Barons
A brand new team to the KFL. The Barons will have a tough year ahead. In a short time, they are going to have to learn how to come together all while facing some very strong teams. Young players and an enthusiasm for the game, these guys are going to try to surprise as many teams as they can.

Predators
The Preds are back again. Falling just short of the A side playoffs in
2010, this young team will try their best to make that push to the top of the league and back to the playoffs.

Smoke
Three years of first round losses. Thats what the Smoke want to stop in 2010. Always near the top of the league, the Smoke plan on getting back there again, and changing that playoffs streak.

So there are your KFL teams for 2010. Hope everyone has a great season.

Clayfield and Cox all-stars
2009-10-07 00:38:16
The KFL all-stars where announced today and the battery combo of catcher Jason Clayfield and pitcher Larry Cox made the list. Clayfield caught every inning this year for the Sox and showed why runners think twice when testing his arm. Jason also lead the Sox in most offensive categories such as average, hits, runs, RBI, and total bases. Larry Cox made the team for stellar performance on the mound all season and throughout the playoffs. Cox posted a 6-3-3 record and had a sparkling ERA of 2.33. Both guys were a big reason for the Sox success this past year and were well deserving of the acknowledgment.

Sox season over
2009-09-16 18:12:11
The Breslau Black Sox season came to an end with their heartbreaking 1-0 loss in extra innings in the decisive game three of their opening round playoff match up. Both the Sox and Selects played amazing defense bailing out their pitchers in a few key jams. Leading the way offensively for the Sox was Chris Schuett with two singles. Larry Cox took the hard loss as he pitched flawlessly in both game two and three of the series. Cox only surrendered four hits in game three over eight innings of work. It was a rough way to lose a series but the Sox showed a lot of moxy with nine come from behind victories and ties throughout the entire season. Hopefully the tight games will help the team grow for the 2010 season.

Selects win series 2-1
Game MVP: Jeff Kolb
Line of the night: Larry Cox - 8 IP, 4 H, 2 K

Sox win another walk off
2009-08-31 23:03:49
With their season on the line, the Sox where able to scrap out a 1-0 thriller to even up the series and force game three. It was a good old pitching duel with Larry Cox and Doug Hoffman going head to head baffling both offenses with amazing pitch locations and great movement. However, the Sox where able to get to Hoffman in the top of the seventh when Corey Jackson led off the inning with a pinch hit single. He was replaced by Jeff Laythorpe for running purposes. Following Jackson's clutch hit was Scott Robinson who knocked his second hit of the game sending Laythorpe to third on the play and taking second himself on the throw. The Selects then decided to load the bases by walking Chris Dietrich in order to set up a force play any where in the infield. Cory Bluhm wanted nothing to do with that and cashed Laythorpe with a sacrifice fly to right field giving the Sox the dramatic walk off win and forcing a game three.

Just like last season, the Sox have taken the top seed in the league to the a final decisive game.

Best of three series tied 1-1
Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the night: Larry Cox - CG, SO, 5 K, 5 H

Sox drop game one
2009-08-31 22:57:29
Just like last season, the Black Sox dropped game one of their opening round playoff series to the Selects 6-3. The Sox where taken out of the game early by some questionable calls by the men in and blue and some errors in the field. However, after the first couple of innings they where able to regroup and make the game close. The offense was lead by Steve Jenereaux and Tim Bartram who both had two hits. Steve also belted his first homer of the season with a massive blast to straight away Center field. The Sox will look to rebound and even up the series in game two.

Selects lead best of three series 1-0
Game MVP: Steve Jenereaux
Line of the night: Steve Jenereaux - 2 for 3 , 1 1B, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Sox close out regular season
2009-08-14 20:33:06
The Sox closed out their regular season with a 9-1 loss to the Falcons. The Sox clearly looked like a gassed bunch after playing five games in two days up in Desboro. Shayne Riepert took the tough loss but it wasn't for a lack of trying as his defense couldn't bail him out. Offensively the Sox were up against one of the best pitchers in the league and Southern Ontario in Fred Follings who fanned sixteen Sox. However, he couldn't confuse Scott Robinson who stroked two singles. With the loss the Sox will be entering the A side of the playoffs in the fourth place in the Red Division.

Game MVP: Steve Jenereaux
Line of the Night: Scott Robinson - 2 for 3, 2 1B, 1 SB

Desboro!
2009-08-14 20:19:33
The Sox entered Desboro looking to defend the title they won in dramatic fashion last year. Overall the Sox played a great weekend and like always got into some mischief in their free time. All in all the Sox came out as "B" Division Champs after playing five games all weekend.

In their first game, the Sox took on the Central Fairbank Lumberjacks from the Mississauga Fastball League. The Lumberjacks put up a great challenge in a game that went back and forth the entire game. Marc Geddes was a machine on the mound chopping down thirteen Lumberjacks hitters via strikeout. Geddes' battery mate Jason Clayfield also started what was a productive weekend cashing in the go ahead run of the game in the top of the seventh as the Sox won 4-3.

For their second game of the weekend the Sox faced a familiar foe in Bell Cartage from the KFL. The Sox sent out Bob Underwood (regularly of the Classics) to face the potent Bell lineup and Underwood tamed their bats striking out eight in four innings of work. Again Jason Clayfield continued his amazing offensive display by taking Mel Ross deep for a three run homer in the last inning giving the Sox a temporary 3-2 lead. However, the Sox weren't able to hold onto the lead and fell to Bell 4-3 and thus forcing the Sox to the B side of the tournament.

After suffering from a tough loss the Sox had to play quickly after against Keady of the Bluewater League. The Sox wasted no time forgetting their previous game jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on pace to their 5-0 mercy rule win. Larry Cox was a workhorse on the mound fanning seven hitters and surrendering only one hit in the victory. Marc Geddes also knocked in two runs on his two doubles.

In the B division semi-finals, the Sox took on the Lumberjacks once again and provided a very entertaining game if you enjoy offense and dramatics. Going into the bottom of the seventh the Sox where down by two runs when Chris Detrich stroked a triple to ignite the rally. Dietrich scored on a Justin Krulicki double and was promptly sent to third base on the two walks to Jeff Kolb and the intentional pass to Jason Clayfield. With two out and the bases loaded, the stage was set for Jeff Laythorpe. Jeff promptly smacked the third pitch he saw to the deepest part of the park narrowly missing putting it out of the park. Thus giving the Sox the walk off win and a trip to the B finals.

In the B finals the Sox were up against Meaford of the Bluewater League. The Sox wasted no time in drawing first blood scoring three in the top of the first inning and thus initiating the big score and forcing another mercy rule for the weekend. The final score was 7-2 and the Sox lineup stroked nine hits in five innings lead by Jason Clayfield who once again went 2 for 2 while Scott Robinson chipped in two RBI.

This marked the third year in a row that the Sox have walked away from Desboro with money and their second year in a row winning some hardware. A big thanks should go out to Justin Clayfield and Justin Krulicki of the Cardinals as well as Bob Underwood of the Classics for their great contributions to the weekend.

Sox drop to reds
2009-08-14 19:59:00
Jeff Kolb was placed into a spot start against league rival the Reds. Kolb pitched great considering he hadn't pitched all season. The Reds weren't able to put up much offense, scraping out four runs through the six innings while only one of those four runs where earned. Offensively the Sox couldn't muster any of that magic from last year's playoffs as they faced a very tough Kevin Buckley. The Sox managed to get hits out of Jason Clayfield, Jeff Kolb, and Steve Jenereaux. The final was 4-0 for the Reds.

Game MVP: Jeff Kolb
Line of the Night: Jeff Kolb - 6 IP, 3 K, 10 GO, 1 ER

The kid is clutch
2009-07-31 19:23:41
The Breslau Black Sox clinched a spot in the A side of the playoffs with last night's dramatic 6-4 victory over the Cardinals. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth the Sox came storming back to score five runs all with two outs. Cory Bluhm started the two out rally and was quickly followed by some great patience by Larry Cox and Jeff Kolb both drawing key walks (Kolb's eighteenth of the season). Steve Jenereaux promptly stroked a single to keep the rally alive and setting the table for Shayne Riepert. Pinch hitting for the first time this season, Shayne left quite the impression launching the second pitch he saw over the left field fence for a pinch hit grand slam to put the Sox out ahead for good. Not to be outdone, Chris Schuett turned in a great night at the plate going 3 for 4 and swiping his tenth base of the year. Marc Geddes pitched seven strong innings for his first victory of the season. The Sox are now unbeaten in 6 games.

Game MVP: Shayne Riepert (pinch hit grand slam)
Line of the Night: Chris Schuett - 3 for 4, 2 1B, 1 3B, 1 R, 1 SB

Sox - Cards earn a draw
2009-07-29 20:08:19
In their first match of two this week, the Black Sox earned a 1-1 tie with the upstart Cardinals. With both teams battling for their playoff lives, they both benefit by gaining at least one point as that could make the difference between making the playoffs or watching them. The Sox had their chances to take the game but were unable to capitalize, which has been a recurring theme this season. The Sox where led offensively by Jason Gillier who chipped in a double and also drew a walk earlier in the game. Tim Bartram provided the lone RBI on the night, while Marc Geddes collected his first hit of the year after missing most of the season with a back injury. Larry Cox and Marc Geddes shut the door on the Cardinal hitters showing everyone the depth the Sox have in pitching.

Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the Night: Marc Geddes - 3 IP, 4 K, 0 R

Rained out again
2009-07-29 19:59:56
The much hyped rematch of the Black Sox versus Reds has yet again been postponed by mother nature. It has been rescheduled to take place on August 6th.

Sox stage comeback
2009-07-29 19:58:24
With every game meaning something during the stretch run, the Sox earned a much needed point with their 2-2 tie versus Bell Cartage. Shayne "the kid" Riepert pitched a gem baffling the potent Bell lineup by going five innings and striking out six while only surrendering two runs. The Sox staged the comeback being down 2-0 in the sixth when Jason Clayfield hit an RBI single. The comeback was completed in the bottom of the seventh with the ever dramatic sacrifice fly hit by Chris Dietrich. The Sox had the go ahead run on third with two out but where unable to cash the runner.

Game MVP: Shayne Riepert
Line of the Night: Shayne Ripert - 5 IP, 6 K, 2 ER

Sox top Smoke
2009-07-20 18:47:40
As the season gets closer to the end, each game has a new level of importance in the playoff race. This was not lost on the Black Sox as they beat the Smoke 2-1, closing to within one point of second place in the division with two games in hand. The Sox were paced by their great pitching as Marc Geddes started his first game in almost a year after recovering from a back injury. Geddes was jacked up and it showed as he struck out the first batter he faced with general ease. He managed to throw three strong innings, striking out three while surrendering two hits. Larry Cox took over to close out the game and continued his dominance this season whiffing five batters in four innings while surrendering two hits for the victory. Offensively, the Sox got great contributions out of Tim Bartram, Larry Cox, and Jason Clayfield who all had two hits apiece. While Chris Dietrich and Clayfield knocked in the only two runs the Sox would need. The Sox will be in tough this week as they face the surging Bell Cartage and division leading Kings as they continue their march to a playoff spot.

Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the night: Larry Cox - 4 IP, 5 K, 2 H, 0 ER - 2 for 2, 2 1B

Sox bats awaken in slamming of Wizards
2009-07-15 18:23:33
The Breslau Black Sox bats came alive last night as they pounded out 12 hits in their 11-0 victory over the Wizards. Every player except one in the starting lineup accounted for a hit. Leading the way offensively was Chris Schuett with three hits and three RBI. While Jason Clayfield and Shayne Riepert also chipped in with two hits apiece and Tim Bartram knocked in two RBI. Jeff Kolb displayed his patience again drawing another three walks as teams aren't willing to take the chance pitching to him. Shayne Ripert took to the circle for the Sox throwing five shutout innings while giving up four hits and striking out another four. In eleven innings this year, Shayne has yet to allow a run and has also struck out nine - impressive stuff from the kid.

Game MVP: Chris Schuett
Line of the night: Chris Schuett - 3 for 4, 2R, 3 RBI, 2 1B, 1 2B

Returning to Desboro
2009-07-13 22:46:27
The Breslau Black Sox received confirmation today that they will be attending Desboro's 36th annual men's fastball tournament August 7 - 9. Last year the Sox won a thrilling extra inning championship game against the Mississauga Sox. This year they will be at the tournament with targets on their backs as they hope to repeat as champs.

Down to the wire
2009-07-13 22:42:52
This year's run to the playoffs is looking as tight as it has ever been with only five points separating first to sixth in the Black Division. The next few weeks will see some crucial games being played and will also have a playoff type feel as teams battle for their playoff lives. Here's how the final stretch of games look for the six teams battling for the four playoff spots:

1. Kings (eight games reamining)
- Cardinals (x2), Bell Cartage (x2), Predators, Black Sox, Smoke, Selects

2. Smoke (five games remaining)
- Predators (x2), Black Sox, Wizards, Kings

3. Bell Cartage (six games remaining)
- Wizards, Kings (x2), Black Sox, Cardinals, Predators

4. Black Sox (seven games remaining)
- Wizards, Smoke, Bell Cartage, Kings, Cardinals (x2), Reds

5. Cardinals (six games remaining)
- Kings (x2), Wizards, Bell Cartage, Black Sox (x2)

6. Predators (six games remaining)
- Smoke (x2), Kings, Wizards, Bell Cartage, Paris Predators

Needless to stay it should be exciting.

Rally for a point
2009-07-13 16:31:22
When it gets this close to the end of the season, a much deserved point can go a long way in determining who does and doesn't make the playoffs. The Sox hope that is true after their hard fought 7-7 tie with Predators. This game saw one of the more remarkable comebacks in Sox history as they where down by four runs in the top of the seventh. With two outs the Sox managed to score five runs and take the lead to unfortunately surrender the tying run in the bottom of the seventh for the tie. Tim Bartram proved to be clutch with his go ahead single as part of his multi-hit night. While Jason Clayfield (who continues to swing a hot bat) and Chris Dietrich also chipped in with two hits a piece. Cory Bluhm and Jeff Kolb rounded out the hit parade. Kolb, also showed amazing patience at the plate taking three walks in the game as teams are starting to throw around this dangerous hitter. Larry Cox took the mound again for the Sox and has continued to be the steady workhorse that the Sox hoped he would be going seven strong again.

Game MVP: Tim Bartram
Line of the night: Chris Dietrich - 2 for 3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB

Rain again!
2009-07-02 15:46:52
The much anticipated rematch of the Reds and Black Sox took another turn as the guys were only able to complete two innings before the skies opened up and postponed the game for a second time. The KFL will reschedule this classic match up for later in the year. The Sox will look to snap their losing streak by staking revenge on the Predators for a loss earlier in the season.

Can't hassle the Hoff
2009-06-30 17:17:20
The Sox took on long time rival the Selects the other night and ran into the impressive Doug Hoffman. Hoffman pitched a gem only giving up four hits all game. Providing the lone bright spots for the Sox offensively were Tim Bartram, Cory Bluhm, Larry Cox, and Chris Dietrich all picking up singles in this tightly contested game. Cory Bluhm helped keep the game close late in the game when he made the ever rare 7-2 double play, justifying why teams shouldn't consider running on the Sox outfielders. Larry Cox deserved a much better outcome as he pitched another solid game for the Sox going the distance while fanning four batters and only surrendering five hits. The Sox will look to get back on track as they take on the Reds in their next game.

Game MVP: Cory Bluhm
Line of the night: Larry Cox - 6 IP, 4 K, 5 H, 2 ER - 1 for 3, 1 1B

Sox get "Bell" rung
2009-06-30 17:09:36
Although they had their chances, the Sox just couldn't capitalize or mount on early and later potential rallies falling to Bell Cartage 12-5. Leading the way for the Sox offensively was Tim Bartram, Chris Schuett, and Jason Clayfield smacking out two hits a piece. All three guys also knocked in a run while Chris Schuett continued to blaze up the base paths with another two stolen bases.

Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the night: Chris Schuett - 2 for 3, 2 1B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 SB

Sox crown kings
2009-06-19 21:31:51
The Black Sox took on the Black Division leader and divisional rival Kings on Thursday and served noticed that the Sox are contenders for the division with a 4-1 victory. Cory Bluhm had a break out night for the Sox going 4 for 4 while hitting three doubles in the process and scoring another two runs. Steve Jenereaux, Scott Robinson, Jason Clayfield, and Jeff Laythorpe all helped offensively in the win. Jenereaux and Laythorpe cashed in the runs by collecting an RBI a piece. Larry Cox was stellar on the mound baffling the Kings hitters scattering six hits and striking out eight in a solid seven innings of work. Cox's mixing of speeds and locations helped throw the Kings off balance and also lead to him getting out of a few tough spots.

Game MVP: Cory Bluhm
Line of the night: Cory Bluhm - 4 for 4, 1 1B, 3 2B, 2 R

Sox ride late inning rally to victory
2009-06-19 21:24:24
The Sox took on the expansion Paris Predators on Tuesday night and needed a three run rally sparked by Jason Gillier and capped by Jason Clayfield in the sixth to help lead the Sox to victory. The Sox smacked out ten hits in the game and were lead by Chris Schuett, Jason Clayfield, and Jeff Kolb all having multi-hit games. Jeff Kolb also managed to hit his first home run of the year. Jason Clayfield also chipped in three RBI, while Chris Schuett continued to show off his blazing speed swiping another two bases. Larry Cox continued his mastery on the mound this season with another stellar performance going the distance in the victory.

Game MVP: Jeff Kolb
Line of the night: Jason Clayfield - 2 for 4, 1 1B, 1 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI

Member of the sox off to the worlds
2009-06-19 21:09:52
Congratulations goes out to pitcher Larry Cox, who also coaches the Bridgeport Braves of the South Perth League, for qualifying for the ISC II Tournament of Champions taking place in Quad Cities, Illinois / Iowa. This will be Larry Cox's fifth trip to the worlds. The tournament takes place August 18 - 22.

Rain out again
2009-06-19 18:17:08
The Black Sox / Cardinals match up was called due to rain once again in the region. This is the Sox third game postponed game due to the rain so far in this early part of the season. The game will be made up at a later day. This game has a level of intrigue for the Clayfield family as both kids will be playing against each other for bragging rights at home. The winner gets to control the TV remote!

A tie!
2009-06-10 19:14:16
A famous coach once said "A tie is like kissing your sister". If that's true, then the Sox planted a big one. The Black Sox scored the tying run in the top of the seventh to earn one point in the standings in a hard fought match up with the expansion Moonshiners. The Sox once again were hitting the ball hard around the field but they couldn't find the holes, which seems to be the story to their season thus far. Jason Clayfield continued to swing a hot bat going 2 for 3 and scoring a run. Cory Bluhm and and Tim Bartram also chipped in with a hit a piece. Bluhm also plated two while Shayne Riepert cashed in the other run in the 3-3 tie. Corey Jackson went the distance allowing seven hits and two earned runs while fanning six batters over seven innings.

Game MVP: Jason Clayfield
Line of the night: Cory Bluhm - 1 for 2, 2 RBI, Sacrifice Fly

Sox offence put a spell on Wizards
2009-06-08 16:36:28
The Sox broke out offensively in their latest game against the Wizards with an 11-4 victory over the Wizards. The Sox scored eleven runs on thirteen hits and where lead by multi-hit games by Jason Clayfield, Larry Cox, and Jeff Laythorpe. Jason Clayfield and Larry Cox combined went six for seven, knocking in four RBI and scoring three runs. Jeff Laythorpe chipped in two RBI and two runs scored while hitting two doubles on the night. Scott Robinson (two RBI) and Jeff Kolb (three RBI) rounded out the hit parade. Chris Schuett also flashed his speed to the league scoring three runs and stealing another two bases. Larry Cox pitched another great game for the Sox going six strong innings while only giving up two earned runs and striking out another six. The Sox will look to keep up their winning ways as they take on two expansion teams in the coming week with games against the Moonshiners and the upstart Cardinals.

Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the night: Jason Clayfield - 3 for 3, 1 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI

Game called due to rain
2009-05-29 21:47:08
The Sox will have to wait for another night to take on the rival Cambridge Reds as their rematch from last year's dramatic playoffs series was postponed due to rain. The Sox will play one game next week as they take on the Wizards on Thursday night.

Sox fall on tough times
2009-05-29 21:45:35
The Sox fell on tough times as their offense deserted them losing to the Predators 10-2. The Sox had their chances but they just couldn't cash them when they needed to. Several players crushed what the Predators threw at them but the ball just didn't have the eyes for hits, as they where right at most of the fielders - an encouraging sign for a huge offensive game in the future. The Sox record now drops to 2-3. They will look to get back in the winning soon.

Game MVP: Jeff Kolb
Line of the night: Jeff Kolb - 1 for 2, 2 BB

The kid can bring it!
2009-05-26 17:39:20
Shayne Riepert was the hard luck loser as the Sox took on the Smoke in a close 2-1 loss. Riepert was pitching in his first game of the year for the Sox and the kid didn't disappoint. He went six strong innings pitching a four hitter, fanning five, and getting twelve ground ball outs behind him. Not only was the kid great on the mound, but he also cashed in the only offensive run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. The Sox offense stalled against former ISC II MVP Casey Halstead. They managed to get three hits off of Halstead and also hit the ball hard all night but unfortunately right at the Smoke defenders. The Sox will look to get back on track next week when they take on the Predators and Reds.

Game MVP: Shayne Riepert
Line of the night: Shayne Riepert - 6 IP, 5 K, 4 H, 0 ER -- 1 for 3, 1 RBI

Sox take down defending champs
2009-05-20 17:59:14
It was a great night for the Sox as they took down the defending KFL champion K-W Classics 7-4 in a hard fought victory. Larry Cox, Steve Jenereaux, and Jason Clayfield led the offensive hit parade with two hits a piece. Jenereaux also cashed in three runs while Cox, Scott Robinson, Tim Bartram, and Chris Dietrich also cashed in runs. The pivotal moment in the game came early in the visiting half of the third inning with the Classics threatening to even up the score. Cory Bluhm came up with the defensive play of the game by gunning out a Classics runner at the plate with his strong throw from left field. This play helped kill a potential rally for the Classics and the Sox were able to respond by scoring another three runs in the home half of the inning to help put the game out of reach. Larry Cox earned the victory chucking four innings of solid ball while Corey Jackson came in to throw the Classics off balance with a fantastic relief effort mixing his locations and speeds in two innings of work. Next up for the Sox is an inter-division match up with the Smoke this Thursday.

Game MVP: Larry Cox
Line of the night: Steve Jenereaux - 1 1B, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 R

Game called due to rain
2009-05-14 20:33:27
The Sox will have to wait for another night to take on their rival Selects, as the game for tonight has been called due to rain.

The Sox will look to carry on their winning ways next week when they take on the defending KFL Champions, the Classics on Tuesday, May 19th.

Cox leads Sox charge
2009-05-13 17:33:57
Larry Cox was key to the Sox earning their first victory of the season pitching a complete game six hitter. Cox also went perfect at the plate with two singles, two walks, and two RBI. Also getting in on the offensive charge for the Sox was Jeff Kolb and Jeff Laythorpe who both had multi-hit games. Shayne Riepert stole the show in the field putting on a defensive clinic at shortstop making webgem after webgem helping preserve the Sox lead. Make the final 6-2 for the Sox as they prepare to take the field against one of their biggest rivals in the league, the Kitchener Selects, on Thursday.

Game MVP: Corey Jackson
Line of the night: Larry Cox - 2 1B, 2 RBI, 2 BB

Sox drop opener
2009-05-13 17:23:54
The Sox stumbled out of the gate to start the season as they took on the hard hitting Diamond Jaxx. The game looked liked it was going to be a slug fest when both teams scored in the first inning. However, the Jaxx capitalized on five errors in the second inning en route to their 8-2 victory. Jeff Kolb and Jason Clayfield led the offensive charge with a hit and RBI apiece. Larry Cox was the tough luck pitcher on the night, pitching well enough to keep the Sox in the game but they couldn't cash in on the many opportunities the Jaxx let them have in game. The Sox left ten squandered runners on base.

Game MVP: Jeff Kolb
Line of the night: Jeff Kolb - 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 BB

Announcement: Kitchener to host 2011 ISC worlds
2009-05-13 00:18:21
The International Softball Congress (ISC) is pleased to announce that
Kitchener, ON will host the 2011 ISC World Tournament and ISC II Tournament of Champions.

Normally, bidding for the 2011 tournaments would occur during the ISC
Board of Director meeting in August in Quad Cities. However, we have talked to each prospective host city for 2011 and all have withdrawn except Kitchener. It was therefore decided we would award the 2011 tournaments early, to allow Kitchener maximum time to plan and prepare.

Kitchener has successfully hosted 3-prior ISC World and ISC II tournaments in 2002, 2006 & 2007 and we have every confidence their 2011 tournaments will be equally successful.

It is expected that Duncan Matheson will again serve as tournament
director for the World Tournament and Rick Boyd as tournament director for the ISC II Tournament of Champions.

The contract with Kitchener will be signed later this summer after the
Midland contract for 2010 is signed.

Sox season starts now!
2009-05-04 19:34:11
The Breslau Black Sox look to start their sixth season in the KFL on May 5th (9pm Budd #2) as they take on the Diamond Jaxx. Last season the Sox split their games with the Jaxx in two closely contested games.

This year's Sox got a little bit younger while also adding that veteran presence they had always been looking for. The young guys are Corey Jackson (Waterloo Jr. Twins), Jason Gillier (Kent Bridge), and Shayne Riepert (KW Kolts). The team also added a much needed veteran presence by adding Larry Cox (formerly of Bell Cartage). Cox will be counted on heavily to help make up for the loss of Marc Geddes and Chris Young on the mound.

The rest of the team has returned and hope to build on their exciting finish to last season when they upset the number one seeded Cambridge Reds in the first round of the playoffs. The Sox lost to the eventual league champion Classics in the semi-finals. However, the Sox came out of the playoffs with a lot of promise and positives to help move forward for this upcoming season.

In just two weeks...
2009-04-22 17:55:35
Courtesy of the KFL site:

Two weeks from tonight, the 2009 season of the Kitchener Fastball League begins. This year, we bring 14 teams to the table, making us one of the only fastball leagues to actually grow in size.

With 14 teams, and a need to keep our regular season from going into
October, we have divided into two equally balanced divisions, Red and Black(corresponding with the colour combination in our new logo.) The top four from each division will make up the A side playoffs with Black one facing Red four, Black two against Red three, Red two versus Black three and Red one taking on Black four. The four survivors will then be reseeded by regular season points for the semi finals. Each series will be a best two out of three with the finals being three out of five.

The six teams not making the A side, will compete in a single elimination tournament, with the sixth seeds on each side getting a first round bye. The finals of the B side will be a best two out of three.

With the opening night close at hand, here is an introduction to the teams competing in the KFL this year.

Black division

Bell Cartage
Bell Cartage comes back to the league with a little revenge on their
minds. Having made it to the finals of the 2008 playoffs, they then lost three straight to the Classics. This year, with much of the squad intact, they plan to take that final step.

Black Sox
One of the upset stories last year. Struggling through the regular season and finishing eighth, they then surprised everyone by knocking off the number one seeded Reds. The put up a fight in the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champions, the Classics.

Cardinals
One of three new teams to the KFL, the Cardinals, a junior-aged team, will be bringing a youth movement into the league and will try to capitalize on the young legs and hard-throwing arms to keep up to the more experienced teams.

Kings
The Kings finished on the A side in 2008 but hope to move further in the playoffs than they did last year after a first round knock out. Picking up a new coach to add some knowledge and direction, the Kings should be ready to play right from the first pitch.

Predators
The Preds have been right on the edge of the A side playoffs for a couple of years now and are ready to break through this season. Having been in the league for a number of years, starting out as a junior-aged team, they now have the experience to face the rest of the league and rack up some runs.

Smoke
Two years in a row, the Smoke have had a fantastic regular season go for naught as first round playoff losses (to the same team) sent them home early. This year, with much of the same squad, they plan on having the same great regular season, followed by a trip to the finals.

Wizards
The Wizards begin their sophomore campaign in the KFL with a new logo and a years worth of experience. Struggling to find their rhythm last year, the Wizards are looking forward to competing and causing a stir this year.

Red Division

Bulldogs
Similar to the Predators, the Bulldogs always seem to find themselves on the cusp of the A side playoffs. They can compete with any team in the league but seem to finish just short when the playoffs roll around. This year, the Bulldogs hope to take that extra step, gather a few more points and surprise a team or two when the playoffs start.

Classics
Last years champions, the Classics will be bringing back the wisdom and experience you can only get with many years of playing fastball. They have been in the top echelon of the KFL for years and have no intention of giving that championship trophy back. After dominating the 2008 finals, they Classics will be well prepared to defend their title in 2009.

Diamond Jaxx
This second-year club had a very nice rookie season in the KFL in 2008. Finishing fourth, the Jaxx then fell to eventual finalists, Bell Cartage,in the first round. This season, having seen the majority of these teams in action, the Jaxx will be able to be more aggressive and go after a few more
wins.

Moonshiners
Another new team to the league, the Moonshiners are the X factor in the league this year. Not much is known about them, besides a built in rivalry with the Diamond Jaxx, so the rest of the league will be keeping a close eye on these guys to see what they are capable of.

Paris Predators
The third new team to the KFL, and the second team named the Predators, this junior-aged squad is another team that will be bringing fresh legs to the diamond. Look for them to use their youthful energy to attack teams quickly and letting their pitching hold them from there.

Reds
The 2008 Reds had a great campaign, finishing the regular season in first place and also representing the KFL at the ISC qualifers in Innerkip. They were then upset in the first round by the number eight seed. That did not sit well with them and this year, not only do they intend on leading the league, but also making a run into the finals.

Selects
Three years in a row, the Selects have made the semi-finals. The first two years, they were soundly thrashed by the eventual champs, last year, they just barely lost to the eventual runner-ups. This year, they plan on making it to the semis for the third year running, then taking that extra step into the finals.

So, there are your 2009 KFL teams. The entire schedule is now posted so make sure that you come out and watch a few games, and see how your
favourite team does this year.

Geddes to have surgery
2009-02-18 00:44:24
The Black Sox will be without one of their top pitchers for an extended period of time as Marc Geddes was recently told he will require back surgery. Geddes was informed of the problem last week and will have a better timetable for his return after meeting with the surgeon. The problem lies in his lumbar vertebrae where it appears to be in two separate pieces and is drifting apart. The surgeon will place pins to reattach the vertebrae. There is still a chance that Marc could be available near the end of the regular season depending on his recovery.

Sox lose an original member
2008-12-02 19:51:38
During what has been a pretty quiet offseason, Scott Perchaluk has notified the Black Sox that he will not be returning for the 2009 season. Due to family and personal obligations, Scott also known as 'Perch', has decided to take the year off. Perch will be sorely missed patrolling centre field for the past few seasons while also showcasing his rocket of an arm gunning anyone down trying to take an extra base. Scott also was known for some timely hits and stolen bases throughout the years. We wish the best of luck to Scott and hope to see him wearing a Sox jersey in the future.

League all-star team
2008-10-03 07:09:59
Starting in 2007, the KFL has tried its best to examine its rosters, poll its coaches, ask its fans, and rely on our own MVP voting system to create a powerhouse all-star team. This team is announced close to the end of the season (in this case, just after it ends) and is not scheduled to play any games. It is simply a way for us to recognize the efforts of some individuals in our league. Some are picked for offensive prowess, some for defensive ability, and others for on and off-field leadership. This year's format included selecting two players from each team in the league.

Here are your 2008 KFL allstars:

Mel Ross

Classics crowned league champs
2008-10-01 07:35:39
Congratulations goes out the Classics who swept the league finals 3-0 aganist Bell Cartage to take home their first championship in four years. The only loss the Classics suffered in the entire playoffs was a 1-0 defeat to the Black Sox.

Sox season in review
2008-09-19 12:28:05
The Breslau Black Sox completed another successful season in the KFL and in tournament play. The boys put together a 10-12 season in what turned out to be a rather odd season for the boys. However, they did qualify for the A side of the playoffs and happened to knock off the number one seed Reds, handing them more losses in the playoffs than they experienced all season. Here's a look back to the most memorable moments from the past season:

* Cory Bluhm hitting two home runs in the season opener and nearly getting a third in the game
* The dramatic loss of Scott Robinson and the Sox rallying for a walk off victory over the Predators
* Jason Clayfield's 4-5 night in the slugfest 12-10 loss to the Diamond Jaxx
* Marc Geddes ten strikeout performance against the Reds
* Back to back no hitters by Marc Geddes and Chris Young
* Jason Clayfield's second four hit game of the season
* Scott Perchaluk's and Chris Dietrich's attempt at facial hair in Ponsonby
* Jeff Kolb's two home run performance against the Wizards
* The total team effort put forth in Desboro to win the 34th annual Tom Rider Memorial tournament
* Jeff Laythorpe's 4-4 night against the Reds in game two of the playoffs
* Chris Schuett's consecutive stolen base streak in the playoffs
* The first round upset of the Reds, knocking off the top team in the KFL in shocking fashion

As you can see, the Sox had a lot of great things happen this past year and look to build on these great games and moments next season.

Sox season comes to an end
2008-09-19 10:45:28
The Sox season sadly ended last night in a 9-1 loss to the Classics in game three of the KFL Semi-finals. Chris Young had a rough go of it on the mound due to a rather narrow strike zone. The Classics did all their damage in the first two innings. After that, they couldn't touch Young as he kept chucking it past them and his defense was able to track down anything they did hit. Young gave up no hits and one walk in the last four innings of work. The lone bright spot offensively was Chris Dietrich's leadoff triple for his first extra base hit of the playoffs. Chris Schuett cashed in Dietrich on a ground out. The KFL finals will now see the third seed Classics take on the fifth seed Bell Cartage in the best of five series starting next week.

GAME MVP: Chris Dietrich

Classics force game three
2008-09-17 15:22:17
The Sox looked to earn a berth in their first KFL final but came out flat in game two as the Classics went on to thump them 10-0. The Classics jumped out to an early lead by cashing four runs, with two of them unearned, in the first inning. Marc Geddes picked up his first loss of the postseason. One positive that the Sox can carry over to game three is that they finally started to piece together some hits off of Sean Geehan who has had their number for the past several years. The Sox scattered five hits and loaded the bases in the fifth inning but couldn't cash the runners. Game three will be a dramatic game as both teams are playing for a berth in the KFL final. It will go Thursday night at 9pm.

Game MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox keep rolling
2008-09-10 22:42:18
The Black Sox extended their winning streak to three games with a narrow 1-0 victory over the third seed Classics tonight, taking a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three set. It was a pitchers duel to be sure. Marc Geddes went the distance gaining the shutout while racking up five strikeouts giving up only four hits. The Sox lone run was cashed by an RBI single off the bat of Steve Jenereaux in the second inning. It was all the Sox could muster against the stingy combination of Bob Underwood and Sean Geehan, but it turned out to be all they needed. The Black Sox will try to end the series and clinch their spot in the finals by winning game two of the series on Tuesday night.

GAME MVP: Steve Jenereaux

You guessed it...
2008-09-08 19:41:22
As has been the story throughout the year, tonight's opener of the semi-final match-up against the Classics has been postponed due to heavy rain. The series will now hopefully begin on Wednesday evening.

The semi-finals are set
2008-09-04 12:04:32
Every league loves to see it, and this year's KFL playoffs have shown that there is great parity in the league. The number three seed Classics will take on the number eight seed Breslau Black Sox in a rematch of the 2006 semi-finals. While the number five seed Bridgeport will take on the number seven seed Kitchener Selects. Both series will start on Monday, September 8th and are a best of three format.

Sox knock off top seed
2008-09-04 11:59:35
The Black Sox proved that the playoffs really are the second season and that all teams are equal as they completed their first round upset of the number one seeded Cambridge Reds. The Sox took game three with a 4-1 victory. It was another stellar pitching performance out of the right arm of Marc Geddes who was even better then he was the night before giving up one run while striking out ten and allowing four hits. Geddes also chipped in at the plate coming up with two hits. Chris Schuett also came up with two hits and kept up his stealing ways by swiping his third base of the playoffs. The Sox offence was spectacular throughout their first round hitting .329 as a team. The Sox will move into the semi-finals starting next week.

Game MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox force game three
2008-09-03 09:54:35
With their season on the line, the Sox showed up and knocked the ball around the yard en-route to an 8-2 victory forcing the decisive game three on Wednesday. Marc Geddes took the ball in game two and pitched a gem giving up only one earned run while scattering five hits and striking out another eight. He also chipped in with a clutch RBI triple in the fourth inning helping to lead the six run inning that put the game out of hand. Other impressive offensive performances were turned in by Jeff Laythorpe going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate while scoring twice and cashing in another two. Jeff Kolb was a homerun shy of the cycle and cashed in three runs. Collectively the Sox hit .355 and will look to upset the first place Reds in game three.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox drop game one
2008-08-29 14:25:41
The Sox were in tough last night as they opened their first round playoff series with a tough 3-2 loss to the first place Cambridge Reds. The Sox got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning but weren't able to hold onto the momentum as Cambridge bounced back like they have most of the season. However, the Sox had a lot of positives offensively to take away from the game. Cory Bluhm, Scott Perchaluk, and Jason Clayfield all had two hits a piece. Chris Young took the mound and battled himself for a few innings but once he gained control he was unhittable and kept the Sox in the game with some strong pitching. Young got a little help from his defense when Scott Perchaluk gunned out a potential run from centre field. The Sox will have plenty of motivation for game two on Tuesday, September 2nd as game one ended with both benches clearing and exchanging a few pleasantries. The Sox will look to use that intensity to keep their season alive on Tuesday.

Game MVP: Scott Perchaluk

KFL playoff update
2008-08-29 14:16:38
Two series are done and the other two will wrap up in the middle of next week.

As predicted, both the Classics and Bell Cartage advanced to the league semi-finals with impressive sweeps of their opponents. Both teams will wait for their opponents and next rounds to start on Thursday, September 4th.

The Selects and Smoke are tied in their current series. The Selects stunned the Smoke in game one, hanging a 7-0 victory over the second place powerhouse. However, the Smoke rebounded last night with a 6-3 victory. Game three will be played Wednesday September 3rd.

Playoffs are set - KFL preview
2008-08-26 09:23:11
The Playoffs are finally set and as we all know, anything can happen in the second season. Here's how the first round shapes up in the KFL for the best of the three series.

Reds (1) vs. Black Sox (8)
The surprising Reds took the season series 2-0. However, the Sox have yet to play the league champions with their full and regular lineup so this series could be a toss up. Don't be shocked if the Sox prevail in a hard fought series.
Prediction: Black Sox in 3

Smoke (2) vs. Selects (7)
These two teams have been going at it for the past two years in the playoffs and the Selects got the better half of the Smoke in a dramatic series last year. The Smoke swept the season series on the strong arm of Casey Halstead.
Prediction: Smoke in 2

Classics (3) vs. Kings (6)
This might be one of the more intriguing matchups of the playoffs as the Classics are starting to peak at the right time and the Kings are doing the same. This series will depend on the arms of Don Stebbings and Sean Geehan while Jodie Schnarr and Sam Forbes contribute to the offence. The Kings will look to Fred Follings and Nick Laurette to match the Classics. The teams tied their first meeting of the year and the Classics took the second matchup 2-1.
Prediction: Classics in 3

Diamond Jaxx (4) vs. Bell Cartage (5)
The Diamond Jaxx enjoyed their first year in the KFL by swinging the bats extremely well. However, they will be in tough against the upstart Bell Cartage who will have Dan Martin and Mel Ross for the playoffs. Look for these two arms to the silence the bats of the Jaxx as both of these chuckers will show why they where key members of the Outlaw teams that won the KFL for the past two seasons.
Prediction: Bell Cartage in 2

Sox drop the deuce
2008-08-26 09:04:04
The Sox closed out the regular season playing a doubleheader that really didn't mean much to the Sox as to determining their final standing. The Sox though were once again crippled by their own team as they were forced to scramble and find another new addition to the team hours before game time. The Sox took on the Bulldogs in the first game and lost 11-6. Chris Dietrich provided the offensive highlight when he called his first inning two run home run. However, some rather lack luster plays in the field lead the Bulldogs to gain momentum and take the victory. In the second half of the double header, the Sox played the Classics. Chris Young chucked for the Sox and pitched some great ball but the offense couldn't bail him out as the Sox had numerous opportunities but couldn't capitalize.

GAME 1 MVP: Chris Dietrich, GAME 2 MVP: Chris Young

Sox clinch a playoff spot in A side
2008-08-22 07:45:29
The Sox finally clinched a berth in the A side of the playoffs with a 7-5 win over the Predators. After spending most of the night in hospital for a suspected diagnosis of a hernia, Jeff Kolb took the mound in an emergency start situation. The left hander chucked a great game and held his opponents to only three hits going into the final inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Predators put up a bit of a rally, but Kolb was able to bear down and get out of the jam. Scott Perchaluk did his best impression of John McDonald, the sure handed shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays, with several highlight reel plays while manning the same position. Cory Bluhm led the Sox offensively with two hits while also cashing in three runners. The Sox will close out the regular season on Monday, August 25th with a double header against the Bulldogs at 7pm and the Classics at 9pm.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

No game tonight
2008-08-19 07:48:21
Due to the low turnout on the Sox behalf, the game tonight against the Classics has been rescheduled for Monday, August 25th, to be made up in a doubleheader. The Sox could learn their playoff fate as early as Thursday.

The Sox hobble to defeat
2008-08-15 07:18:22
The Sox once again took the field with nine guys in what's been all too much of an ordinary occurrence. The boys had to play the game with four of their starters hurt and it unfortunately showed in the final outcome. Shyane Riepert was able to make an emergency start for the Sox as their regular pitchers where unable to attend the game, and pitched well but the offense couldn't get him enough runs. Chris Dietrich, Steve Jenereaux, and Scott Perchaluk continued their hot streaks from Desboro and chipped in with some timely hits. The Sox will be in tough next week as they still look to clinch a playoff spot. They will have to do themselves a few favours and piece together a few good games and get a full lineup to show up to make that happen.

GAME MVP: Jason Clayfield

Enough with the rain already!
2008-08-13 19:05:44
Not only did the Sox have to endure the rain in Desboro all weekend, but they had to deal with it again as their makeup game aganist the Bulldogs has been postponed due to rain from earlier in the day. The Sox will play the Kings on Thursday at 9pm.

The Sox will more then likely be playing three games next week now to close out the season and try to earn a berth to the A side of the playoffs.

Sox come back to earth
2008-08-12 12:00:00
After a great weekend, the Sox came back to reality in league play dropping a 10-3 defeat to the Kitchener Selects. The Sox where without any of their regular pitchers and a series of errors lead to the Selects runs. The Sox where lead offensively by Chris Schuett who had two RBIs in the loss, Jeff Laythorpe cashed the other run. Steve Jenereaux also chipped in with two base hits.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

What a weekend
2008-08-11 12:00:00
The Sox went and participated in the 34th annual Desboro Mens Fastball tournament this past weekend, looking to better their third place finish at least year's tournament. Breslau was one of sixteen teams competing for the $1,000 cash prize and the Dave Kaufman memorial trophy.

Saturday morning the boys had to sit through a two hour rain delay before they could take the field against the Kaboni Tigers from Manitoulin Island. Not knowing much about their opponents, the Sox were looking to get to the Tigers early. Jeff Kolb got things rolling with a two run homerun and Jeff Laythorpe followed that up with an RBI triple providing the Sox with enough offence to get them past their first round match. Marc Geddes was dominant on the mound giving up no runs and two hits while striking out twelve in six innings. The Sox would then look forward to facing Bell Cartage from the KFL in their second game. However, the skies opened up and poured for the rest of the day forcing the tournament organizers to reschedule the rest of the games for Sunday.

First thing Sunday morning the Sox finally got to play their second game of the tournament. Chris Young took the mound for the first game and pitched a solid three innings before giving way to Marc Geddes to shut the door. The combination gave up only one run and one hit while striking out nine batters over five innings. The offence was once again supplied by Jeff Kolb who hit another homerun. However, Tim Bartram provided the game winning hit with a clutch RBI triple to welcome Larry Cox, the new pitcher for Bell, to the game. The Sox went on to win 3-1 and earned a trip to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the Sox took on the Tara Merchants for a chance to move into the finals to be played later in the day. In the top of the second inning, the Merchants got out to an early lead by scoring a quick two runs. However, the Sox came right back in the bottom when Jeff Kolb hit his third home run of the tournament followed by a Jeff Laythorpe triple, and Marc Geddes capped things off with a two run homerun with two outs. The Sox wouldn't look back cashing in another six runs lead by Steve Jenereaux, Jason Clayfield, and Scott Perchaluk guaranteeing themselves a spot in the finals against the two time defending champion Mississauga Sox.

Before the finals, the Black Sox where approached by Mississauga about splitting the money and giving everyone a chance to head home early from the tournament. However, the Black Sox didn't cave to the pressure and rejected the Sox offer. The Black Sox found themselves as the crowd favourites and didn't disappoint in what turned out to be one of the best games of the Blacks Sox's year, and probably the entire Desboro tournament. Down 1-0 in the sixth, the Sox got a clutch RBI double from Marc Geddes tying the game and forcing it to extra innings. With the international tie-breaker in effect, the Sox were able to scrap together one run in the eighth inning. However, Mississauga was able to manage the same outcome in the bottom half forcing the game to another extra inning. With a runner again on second base, Scott Perchaluk was able to move him over to third with a sacrifice bunt setting the table for Chris Dietrich who at the time was 0 for 4 with four strike outs. However, Dietrich was determined to play spoiler and ripped an RBI single down the left field line cashing the go ahead run. From there, Steve Jenereaux moved him into scoring position with another sacrifice bunt. Jason Clayfield promptly followed that with an RBI double and the Sox got things rolling scoring seven runs with two outs to go out ahead 10-2. Mississauga was dejected and only managed to scrap together a few runs and the Sox were on their way to winning the 34th annual Desboro tournament 10-5.

In the end, the Breslau Black Sox won their first ever tournament and took home the $1,000 cash prize. Not only that, but Jeff Kolb took home the honours of being the offensive star for the tournament. The Sox came together as a team as well, and each player contributed to each and every victory. At the end of the year, the boys can look back to this tournament as a point that defined their season. Hard fought ball games that turned into hard fought victories. The Sox will look to continue this success into the regular season and hopefully the playoffs.

Postponed...again
2008-08-05 17:07:37
Once again the Sox game tonight has been washed out by Mother Nature. The game that was scheduled tonight against the Predators will be rescheduled.
The Black Sox do head for the diamonds (beaches) of Desboro this weekend for the annual Desboro tournament. The guys made a strong showing last year and look to repeat this time around with their first game Saturday morning at 9:30AM. Watch for updates over the weekend.

Sox harness the Kolts
2008-07-31 10:01:09
After a thirty minute rain delay, the Sox finally took the field against the last place Kolts. Scoring eight times in the first inning proved to be all the Sox needed in the rain shortened game. Leading the way offensively for the Sox was Chris Schuett, Jeff Kolb, and Scott Perchaluk who each had two hits a piece. Jeff Kolb pitched a solid five innings to pick up the win while striking out three batters in the process. The Sox will look to continue their winning ways next week as they take on the Predators and then are off to Desboro.

Game MVP: Chris Schuett -- 2 for 3, 1B, 3B, 2 RBI

Back to .500
2008-07-30 13:57:55
The Sox took on the third place Diamond Jaxx in their first action in two weeks and came up with a big 6-3 victory. The Sox where lead offensively by Cory Bluhm and Steve Jenereaux who each collected two hits a piece. The Sox were a patient group at the plate taking six walks as a team and really showed a different style of offense by taking pitches and playing small ball to generate runs. If the Sox continue in these ways they could be a dangerous team come playoff time. Marc Geddes chucked a complete game giving up two earned runs while striking out seven batters. The Sox look to continue their push to the playoffs with a game against the Kolts on Wednesday.

GAME MVP: Jason Clayfield

Another postponement
2008-07-23 13:42:30
Tonight's matchup against the Bulldogs has been postponed due to field conditions as a result of the rain that has fallen and is expected to fall. The boys are back in action (hopefully) next week against the Diamond Jaxx and the Kolts on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Back in the win column
2008-07-16 12:00:00
The Black Sox got back into the win column again last night with a convincing 10-0 win over the Wizards after five innings. The team on-base percentage for the night was .500, which lead them to a lot of runs. Marc Geddes pitched five shutout innings before being 'relieved' by Cory Bluhm in his season debut on the mound. Geddes struck out eleven Wizards batters while giving up only four hits. Almost every Black Sox batter had a productive night at the plate, most notably was Jeff Kolb who went 2-3 with two homeruns, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored, and five runs batted in.
The Black Sox are heading into another quiet one-game week with their matchup against the Bulldogs on Wednesday.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

Tonight's game
2008-07-14 08:45:17
After playing four long games on the weekend and having no pitchers and a few other sore bodies, tonight's game against the Predators has been postponed. The Sox will look to continue their push to the A playoffs on Tuesday as they take on the Wizards.

Ponsonby wrap-up
2008-07-13 17:00:00
Friday night was a true test against one of the better teams from the South Perth League (with additional players added). The Black Sox struggled with their offense, but their pitching was decent with Marc Geddes pitching well in relief of Chris Young. The final score was 6-0 for the Wellington Brewers, which is respectable considering last year they mercied us.

Saturday morning got started at 11am with Breslau playing Puslinch. The Puslinch pitching was a little less fast than normal, but the Black Sox didn't hit overly well and only managed two runs. It turned out that those two runs would stand up as Chris Young pitched a one run game, showing up right at game time, barely making the starting lineup. There were some familiar faces in the crowd with Scott Robinson making the long drive to come and cheer us on!

The team then went to Turtle Jack's where they had some serious food and Libby celebrated her birthday! While the team was eating, the skies opened up and it poured for about an hour. When the team made it back to the diamonds they were extremely wet and the tournament organizers frantically got the diamonds back into game shape. The game scheduled for 5pm was delayed until about 6.30pm.

The Black Sox's next opponent was the host team, Ponsonby Sting. With a couple of regulars out due to other obligations (Perchaluk / Kolb), the Black Sox went to the farm system and called up the best players available on short notice: Justin Clayfield, Shane, and another Justin who play in the North Waterloo Rural League. Going into the game, Chris Young was unsure how his iffy groin / pitching arm would hold up and proceeded to allow the first five batters he faced to not only reach base, but to score with most of the runs coming on a grand slam that ended up in the corn! Needless to say, the Sox were in trouble right away, but Shane took the ball and managed to set the ship straight, getting the Sox out of the inning down only five runs. Instead of giving up, the Sox continued to show their do-or-die attitude and managed to score five runs of their own in a bat-around first inning of their own! Shane then continued his mastery over the Sting and only allowed two more runs throughout the game with the Sox playing great small-ball and manufacturing five more runs over the last six innings. The game ended around 8.30pm and since it was so late, the game that was originally scheduled for 9pm Saturday night was changed to 9am on Sunday.

The Badgers unfortunately eliminated our heroes and so their weekend was over. The Black Sox were a banged up crew come Sunday morning with Kolb talking to Ralph on the Big White Telephone, K-Y Jelly getting ready to go to Toronto for the Jays game, Bluhm having an injured left hand, and Chris Young with a sore arm and sore groin. Even our call-ups proved they were human with Shane pitching five solid innings before running out of gas. The Black Sox had a good tournament and hope that their next one in Desboro proves to be even better!

Tournament time
2008-07-11 12:07:19
In case people haven't heard, the Breslau Black Sox will be making their annual appearance at the Ponsonby Tournament July 11-13th. The team has contemplated changing their name to the Breslau Dirty 'Staches as they have once again pulled out the old 'grow a moustache' look for this tournament. It will be interesting to see who looks the 'best' as some members forgot to grow theirs, while others have been sporting the flavour saver for a week or more!
In any case, fans are more than welcome to come out and cheer on their favorite hairy team!

Reds keep rolling
2008-07-10 12:00:00
The Black Sox dropped another game 4-0 to the Reds last night in a game where the Sox just couldn't get the bats rolling. Marc Geddes went the distance holding the Reds hitters to just four earned runs, but the effort was wasted.
The Sox look for a chance of scenery this weekend in the Ponsonby tournament.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Rain, rain, go away
2008-07-08 22:17:48
Unfortunately the Sox matchup against the Classics tonight ended up being the Sox third rain-out of the season. The game has been postponed and will be added to the end of the schedule. The Sox take on the red hot Reds tomorrow at 7pm.

Sox drop another to the Smoke
2008-07-04 10:08:40
The Sox officially lost the season series to the Smoke in a hard-fought 4-1 loss last night. Marc Geddes took the mount and went the distance giving up only one earned run and fanning six batters. Geddes contributed well at the plate as well going 2-3 with two singles. Casey Halstead was the difference maker for the Smoke striking out fifteen Sox batters.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Back to .500!
2008-06-27 09:59:30
The Sox won their fourth game in a row last night with a solid 3-0 win over the rival Selects. The current four game winning streak has seen the Sox jump from eleventh place in the standings all the way to fifth. Chris Young took the mound and pitched a gem of a game going six innings allowing only two hits and striking out eleven, showing why he's considered one of the best pitchers in the league. The offense was lead by the Jeff combo, both Kolb and Laythorpe lead the offensive charge with two hits a piece. Steve Jenereaux who's been smoking the ball as of late cashed in two runners in the first inning and those runs would turn out to be all the offense the Sox would need. Jason Clayfield added the other run later in the game with his first extra base hit of the season. The Sox will look to continue their winning ways as they take on the Smoke next week.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb -- 2 for 2, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 SB

Make it three in a row
2008-06-25 09:23:34
Don't look now, but the Sox are starting to play some good ball as they've strung together three straight wins with their 4-3 win over the Kolts. Jeff Laythorpe lead off the second inning with a triple that started a three run rally and the Sox never looked back. Steve Jenereaux chipped in with two doubles to help lift the Sox offense. Chris Young looked strong in his two innings of work and Marc Geddes came in and pitched well to earn the win. The Sox will look to hit the .500 mark as they take on league rival the Selects on Thursday.

GAME MVP: Chris Young

Another no-hitter, another win
2008-06-20 17:17:18
The Sox picked up their second win in a row last night on the back of another outstanding pitching performance. Chris Young and Marc Geddes combined for the second straight no-hitter by the Sox pitching staff. Chris got the win going four innings and Marc finished with the two inning save.
Chris Young not only pitched well, but also went 3-4 at the plate with three singles and a run scored. Jason Clayfield put together four hits for the second time this season going 4-4 with four singles.
Getting the win over a strong Kings team is another sign that the Black Sox have begun to turn things around and look to keep it up next week against the Kolts and Selects.

GAME MVP: Chris Young

Geddes leads Sox to stylish win
2008-06-18 09:34:15
The Sox finally got back to their winning ways last night with a 2-0 shutout against the Bulldogs. The story of the night was Marc Geddes who pitched a no-hitter. Marc went the complete game allowing only three runners to reach base. Two reached on errors, and the third was a walk in the sixth inning.
The Black Sox did only manage two runs, but it was enough. Every batter was putting the ball in play, just not finding a lot of holes. Chris Young did go 3-4 with three singles, an RBI, and a run scored as the lead-off batter. Marc Geddes helped his own cause cashing the game-winning run with a first inning double.
The team hopes to keep up their winning ways Thursday night against the Kings.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox can't stop the bleeding
2008-06-13 15:40:03
The Sox just can't seem to get back into the win column having dropped their fifth straight last night in a rematch against Bell Cartage 9-4.
Jeff Laythorpe got the spot start as a result of a skeleton Sox pitching staff and pitched very effectively, giving his team every chance to win the game. Jeff gave up eight runs on only eight hits in the first start and second appearance of his men's career. Unfortunately each of those eight runs were unearned. The defense behind him let him down in a big way committing five errors.
Jeff also contributed with his bat going 2-4 with a single and an RBI double. Cory Bluhm had a good night going 2-3 with a single and a triple, Tim Bartram went 2-4 with a single and cashed two runs with a double, and Deni Spencer had a 2-3 night to break out of a slump.

GAME MVP: Tim Bartram

It's raining and pouring
2008-06-10 14:44:56
Well the baseball Gods are making the Black Sox wait an extra few days before giving them a chance to snap their losing streak. The Sox game against the Kings has been postponed due to rain and will be made up later in the season.

Sox get their Bell rung
2008-06-06 12:00:00
The Sox offense continued to fail them as they lost 5-0 to Bell Cartage. Bell had one of the better pitchers in the league chucking in Dan Martin and the Sox were all over everything he had to offer, they just couldn't muster anything productive. The Sox should look at that as a positive in the fact that they can hit the best the league has to offer. The Sox are looking to snap their four game losing streak this week with games against the Kings and a rematch with Bell Cartage. If they bounce back like they can with two wins this week, they will be right back in the thick of things and show that they where just victims of bad luck in the past few games.

GAME MVP: Chris Young

The streak continues
2008-06-05 10:12:41
The Sox lost their third game in a row last night in a tough one against the undefeated Reds. The Reds jumped out to the lead early on an unearned run in the second inning. However, the Sox were able to get back into the game in the fifth when Kyal Aitken lead off the inning with a single and later stole third base in a daring move that paid off. There was no more scoring in the game until the bottom of the eighth when Cambridge cashed in the winning run in the extra frame. Marc Geddes pitched a stellar game whiffing ten batters and only surrendering five hits. The Sox will look to get out of their early season funk when they take on Bell Cartage on June 5th.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox on the wrong side of slugfest
2008-05-29 17:43:40
If you're a fan of offensive baseball, then you should have been at Budd 1 last night as the Sox and Diamond Jaxx put on a hitting display with the score looking more like a football score then a baseball score. The Sox unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the 12-10 final. Marc Geddes pitched a great game recording nine strikeouts. However, his defense let him down in a terrible fifth inning committing six errors that lead to six runs. However, the Sox did manage to claw and scratch their way back making the game close. Jason Clayfield lead the offensive charge going 4-5 on the night, continuing his hot start to the season. Jeff Kolb also flexed some muscle late in the game with a massive two run shot. The Sox will be in tough next week as they look to break their two game losing streak against the Reds and Bell Cartage.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

Sox go up in Smoke
2008-05-27 12:00:00
The Sox took another rival on Monday, the currently undefeated Smoke (3-0). The Sox were looking for some pitching help with the recent loss of Scott Robinson and they received it from Matt Young who returned to the team after being in New York. Matt pitched well in his return getting six strikeouts in his four innings of work. However, the Sox where snake bitten by a case of the Smoke hitting the ball where they ain't', leading to six runs. On a positive note, the Sox where hitting Smoke pitcher Casey Halstead hard but ran into some slick fielding which robbed the boys of a few hits. The Sox will look to bounce back against the surging expansion Diamond Jaxx on Wednesday.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

Injury Report
2008-05-23 15:00:00
The Sox where handed a big loss on Friday as they received the news they where hoping to avoid. Scott Robinson is lost for the rest of the season after having surgery on Friday to repair his torn Achilles tendon on his left leg. This injury has definitely handed the Sox a big blow to their pitching staff. The Sox will now have to bear down and pull things together fast if they are going to contend for the KFL championship. We know one thing is sure, this season's sucess is now being motivated by winning for Scott, the Sox leader for the past couple of seasons.

Sox gut out a victory
2008-05-23 14:28:27
The Sox took on the young upstart Predators last night in what turned out to be a great game showing the Sox unwillingness to roll over. The Sox jumped on the Predators early scoring four runs in the first inning thanks in part to Tim Bartram's two-out bases loaded single cashing two runners. The Predators were able to tie the game in the fifth with a three run homer by pitcher Dan Gehl. The following inning, Scott Robinson was able to retire the first two batters of the inning but then was forced to leave the game with what appears to be a torn Achilles Tendon. Jeff Kolb came in for relief and chucked one pitch to retire the Predators. In the home half of the inning, Chris Schuett came up clutch with a lead-off triple. The Predators then walked the next batter and Deni Spencer ripped a hard grounder to first where the Predators retired him but could not get the speedy Schuett at home, ending the game with the Sox winning 5-4. Jeff Kolb picked up his first victory in the KFL.

GAME MVP: Scott Robinson

Classics silence Sox bats
2008-05-21 12:00:00
The Sox took on one of their arch rivals, the Classics. In what usually turns out to be a spirited and competitive affair, the Sox came out flat losing 6-0. The Sox only managed one hit each from Marc Geddes and Jason Clayfield and failed have a runner get past second base. Marc Geddes looked sharp in his first outing of the season on the mound mixing his locations effectively.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Sox take the zip out of the Wizards wands
2008-05-16 12:56:06
In their first game of the season the Sox came to play, and play they did. The Sox put up five runs in the first inning and never looked back as they went onto a 13-0 victory over the new expansion Wizards. The Sox were powered by Cory Bluhm and his two homeruns and five runs batted in. His second shot appeared to be a tape measuring no doubter that landed in the soccer fields behind the park. Scott Robinson shut down the Wizards tossing a two-hit complete game shutout.

GAME MVP: Cory Bluhm

Opening night delay
2008-05-15 13:35:35
Last night's game against the Selects has been postponed to an undetermined time and date due to the fields being unplayable.
So, the Sox will get their season opener in tonight against the new expansion Wizards who are off to a 1-0 start.

A new season begins
2008-05-12 16:06:23
The Black Sox are preparing to kick of their 2008 season this Wednesday as they take on their rivals the Selects. Last year the Sox went 1-0-1 against them.
The Sox will be looking to improve on last year's second place finish in the regular season but they will be facing some stiff competition from teams like the Smoke, Classics, and Selects.

Sox going state-side
2007-09-26 11:21:52
The Sox will be missing two key pieces next year as both John Scopu and Matt Young will be down in the United States. John Scopu was one of the original Breslau Majors / Black Sox. He was known for his ultra competitive attitude and amazing play in the field and at the plate. He truly was a leader on this ball club and was always a gamer. John will now be living in Philadelphia with fiancée and hopefully playing ball down that way. Matt Young played with the Sox for one season but it was a great and fun season. Matt was a steady chucker and a force from the left side of the plate. Matt is now down in New York studying astrophysics and figuring out how we can play baseball in outer space. We wish both of these guys luck and hope to see them on the diamond again soon.

Outlaws complete the three-peat
2007-09-19 12:00:00
The Kitchener Outlaws showed their dominance again as they won their third straight KFL championship with a 3-0 sweep of the Kitchener Classics. The Black Sox will have their eyes set on the Evil Empire (Outlaws) next year.

All–Stars
2007-08-30 12:00:00
Congratulations goes out to infielders John Scopu and Chris Dietrich for being named to the first ever KFL all-star team. Not only were the guys flexing their muscles at the plate, but they were consistently pulling off web gems in the field as well, forming a strong left side of the infield for the Sox. Congrats boys.

Thunder close out Sox season
2007-08-21 12:00:00
Casey Halstead was at it again looking like his dominate self as he shut down the Sox again and closed out their season with a 4-1 victory. It proved to be one of many upsets in the first round of the KFL playoffs. The Sox will undergo some changes for next season but look to put this first round exit behind them and make a stronger run to the KFL finals next season.

GAME MVP: Cory Bluhm

Sox "Bleed It Out"
2007-08-17 16:01:41
The weekend of Desboro always supplies good stories for the Breslau Black Sox and this year was no exception to that. The boys got a chance to get some good bonding happening and will hopefully carry that over to the rest of their first round playoff matchup.

The Sox had an early start to Saturday morning as they where awoken by The Rascals’ “A Beautiful Morning” and the raining crab apples. Nontheless, there was some ball to be played and the Sox opened the tournament with a 4-2 victory over the Alma Dawgs. Then, after their fourteen hour wait, the Sox took the field again at 11:30pm to face the defending champions, Tara Merchants. The Sox made quick work of the Merchants and were off to the semifinals to meet Meaford. In what turned out to be a great game, the Sox lost 4-2 to the somewhat hometown team. However, the Sox did end up winning $375 for their efforts. In addition, the Sox adopted a new team theme song -- “Bleed It Out” by Linkin Park.

Black Sox invade the beaches of Desboro
2007-08-10 09:43:44
The Sox hit the field (beach sand) for their second tournament of the season up in Desboro. In the past, this weekend has usually been a successful tournament and has been a great spark for the Sox to help them finish out their KFL season. The Sox get things started Saturday morning against the Scarborough Wolves. Their next game won’t be until 7pm later that day. Look for updates and funny stories to follow the tournament.

Mighty Casey on the mound
2007-08-09 09:18:47
The Sox where left guessing last night as Casey Halstead was on fire and throwing his complete arsenal of pitches, leaving the Sox guessing what he was going to pitch next. The Sox came out flat from the start of the game, and it carried over throughout the rest of the game only stringing together three hits throughout the night. Marc Geddes threw masterfully in the loss but a costly misread of a line drive hit to left field opened the flood gates and the Thunder capitalized, scoring their first two runs of the ball game. If the Sox want their hopes of winning the league realized they will have to come out on fire and pumped up in Game Two, ready to make a big comeback. This is familiar territory for the Sox, they have come back from playoff deficits like this before. Hence, they remember three seasons ago when they trailed their opening round to Paris 1-0, and came back to win and then did it again against the Selects in the next round. If there is any team in the KFL that can make the comeback, it’s the Breslau Black Sox.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

The big dance starts tonight!!
2007-08-08 12:19:31
It’s the time of the year where anyone can be a hero and usually the most unlikely person becomes one. That’s right folks, it’s playoff time. The Sox will be in tough as they take on the seventh seeded Thunder. The Thunder will be armed and dangerous with Casey Halstead on the mound but the Sox have hit him hard this season and don’t look to change that in this first round series. The Sox look to counter with hard throwing Marc Geddes who has been throwing his best ball of the season lately. This series has potential to go down as a classic and is being built up like a heavyweight prize fight. Just which heavyweight is going to come out on top? We'll find out soon.

The playoffs are coming
2007-08-03 12:00:00
The 2007 regular season is now officially in the books and the playoffs are just around the corner.

With no surprise, the Outlaws have taken the #1 spot again this year, finishing with eighteen wins, one loss, and one tie. As they get geared up for their Tournament of Champions run starting August 14, they better keep in mind that there are still KFL playoffs to be played. They will be facing #8 Bell Cartage who slid to the final playoff spot after going winless in their last five games.

The #2 seed was decided by two tie-breakers and will go to the Black Sox. The Black Sox and the Smoke finished the regular season tied in points with twenty-eight each, and they split their regular season head-to-head games 1-1, but in those games, the Black Sox scored a total of eight runs, while the Smoke scored seven.

The Black Sox will face the team no one wants to face in the first round, the #7 Thunder. Thunder has struggled at times this season but with a 14-0 win over the Classics and a 0-0 tie with the Outlaws, they have proven they can advance against anyone.

The #3 Smoke, will be facing the #6 Selects. These teams have faced each other many times over the years and split this years regular season match-ups. They look to have an exciting and close series.

The final match-up will be the Ontario Masters Silver medalists #4 Classics against the #5 Reds. These teams finished with the same number of wins but the Classics also managed two ties during the season and those two extra points will give them the home field advantage in this series.

All first round matchups will be a two out of three series.

Sox get burned by Smoke
2007-07-27 12:00:00
In a game that could potentially determine the second and the third spots in the final league standings, the Sox took on a familiar foe and league rival, the Smoke. The Smoke came out with their bats on fire and wore out the middle of the infield with numerous hits up the middle scoring five runs in the process. However, the Sox couldn’t figure out Scott Gordon who pitched a gem of a game giving up three hits and one run. All the offence was supplied by Cory Bluhm leading the way with two doubles and a run scored. Jeff Laythorpe had a pinch hit RBI single in the sixth knocking in the lone run for the Sox. Now the Sox will have to wait and see how the Smoke close out the season to find out where they finish in the standings and find out their first round opponent in the playoffs.

GAME MVP: Cory Bluhm

Sox ring the Bell
2007-07-25 12:00:00
In what turned out to be an offensive surge, the Sox would hammer in nine runs en route to 9-2 victory over Bell Cartage. The Sox where all over Bell from the opening pitch of the game, taking on runs early and often off the rookie pitcher starting for Bell. Chris Dietrich led the offensive charge with another home run and four RBI. Other key performances came from Chris Schuett going three for three and Scott Perchaluk who homered in his third consecutive game. John Scopu also chipped in with a solid two for four hitting two doubles en route to his third game MVP of the season.

GAME MVP: John Scopu

2007-07-18 12:00:00
The Thunder where looking for another victory as they continued their push to clinch a spot in the playoffs but the boys in black had a different idea. Fresh off a strong weekend in the Ponsonby tournament, the Sox came out and played some strong D and had some timely hitting to all but insure them a spot in the top three of the league standings going into the playoffs. Marc Geddes was up to his usual tricks throwing two speeds (hard and even harder), while Scott Perchaluk continued his offensive surge homering in back to back games. Chris Schuett also had a clutch pinch hit single cashing in another two runs. The final score ended 4-0.

GAME MVP: Scott Perchaluk

Split weekend
2007-07-16 12:00:00
Although the Sox didn’t win any money, they had a fairly good showing in Ponsonby winning two games and losing two tough ones. They started the weekend off on a winning note taking down the 2006 ORSA champions Puslinch in a back and forth 6-5 final. From there, they went onto face the very tough Rochester Bombers losing a close game 3-1. The boys then had to face a familiar foe in the Cambridge Reds. It was the third time this year that they faced the Reds and like the previous times, Breslau came out victorious again thumping Cambridge 7-1. Sunday morning proved to be one of the boys’ most exciting games of the season as they took on the strong hitting Millgrove Smoke. After falling behind early 5-1, Breslau dug down deep in the firth to put together one of their strongest comebacks in recent memory. The inning was capped by a three run bomb by Tim Bartram and Breslau out on top 6-5. However, in the home half of the inning Millgrove struck back and capitalized on a blown call thus going onto win as a result. All in all, there were many positives to take out of the tourney and carry forward to the playoff run and rest of the season.

Sox hit the pound
2007-07-13 12:00:00
In what would probably be classified as one of the oddest games this season, the Sox were able to scrape by the Bulldogs in a wild 11-7 victory. The game went back and forth and it even saw a reserve pitcher get an inning of work in what lead to the Bulldogs comeback. Luckily the Sox where able to scrape together enough runs in the top of the seventh to bring the lead back. The Sox where lead by an impressive hitting display from Scott Perchaluk who went three for four with a homerun and five RBI. Also going deep, were Cory Bluhm and Kyal Aitken who hit an inside the park homerun, and notched his first multi-hit game of the season.

GAME MVP: Cory Bluhm

It’s tournament time!!
2007-07-11 10:56:14
The Sox get their first taste of the tournament season when they partake in the Tom Rider Memorial Tournament in Ponsonby on July 13-15. The Sox enter the tournament after a strong third place showing last year as one of the favourites. The Sox will be in the twelve team field along with four other teams from the KFL. Action gets started on Saturday morning at 10:30 as the Sox take on Puslinch of the Intercounty League.

Sox get a much needed victory
2007-07-11 10:50:01
The Sox halted the five game winning streak of the Cambridge Reds with a strong 5-3 victory. The Sox jumped on the Reds early when John Scopu went yard for the fourth time this season and his second time against Cambridge. Deni Spencer and Tim Bartram also jumped in on the offensive surge by chipping in two hits a piece. Bartram also came around to score twice. Scott Robinson was chucking a no-hitter into the fourth inning when it was eventually broken. He went on to recover from that and continued to chuck a strong game mixing in deadly change-ups, and nibbling the corners of the plate at random.

GAME MVP: Tim Bartram

Black Sox left searching for answers
2007-07-05 13:06:18
The Sox took on the last place Predators and came out flat in what turned out to be an eye opening experience for the team. In a bit of a drought, the Sox were only able to put up one run against the Predators and only hit the ball out of the infield three times all game. The boys in black are left wondering where their offence has disappeared to and will be looking for someone or something to give them a spark as they try to get back on track. What better chance for redemption than their test (Thursday night) against the surging Cambridge Reds who are currently riding a five game winning streak. The Sox had a strong pitching performance from Matt Young, who was relieved by his older brother Chris “Wild Thing” Young.

GAME MVP: Matt Young

No Game
2007-07-02 08:02:21
No game tonight because of Canada Day. The Black Sox play again on Wednesday. See you there.

Geddes makes Falcons lay an egg
2007-06-29 09:24:49
The Sox got back in the win column with a 3-0 victory over the Shakespeare Falcons. Marc Geddes took the ball and made short work of the Falcons giving up just one hit and striking out thirteen. He also chipped in by adding one of the five hits the Sox collected on the night. Other hits came from Scott Perchaluk, Tim Bartram, and Chris Young who also knocked in two runs with his clutch bottom of the 6th base hit with the bases loaded. The Sox showed some speed on the base paths swiping five bases in the game. The Sox improved their record to 9-3-2 heading into the final few weeks of the season. Breslau will be looking to clinch a spot in the A side of the playoffs in the next week.

GAME MVP: Chris Young

Sox get cleaned by Outlaws
2007-06-26 12:00:00
The Sox suffered their third loss of the season as they took on the Outlaws. The Outlaws have not lost a regular season game for the past two seasons and showed some impressive pitching and hitting in their 10-1 victory. However, the Sox where able to take some positives from this game as they did at least score a run this game, and also put together eight hits off of Mel Ross who was looking like his dominant self again. John Scopu showed why he’s one of the best third basemen in the KFL with another strong offensive and defensive performance. The Sox will look to get back in the win column later this week when they take on the Shakespeare Falcons.

GAME MVP: John Scopu

Another draw for the Sox
2007-06-21 12:00:00
The Sox faced another tough game when they took the field against the Classics, a great rival who has finished the Sox season in the playoffs the past two years. The game turned into a great pitching dual with Marc Geddes going through the Classics like free beer at a frat party. However Marc’s counterpart Bob Underwood was doing the same thing as the savvy lefty was keeping the Sox bats quiet as well. The game went to extra innings and nothing was settled as the game finished 0-0.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Rain washes out the Sox @ Smoke game
2007-06-20 12:00:00
The Sox had their first rain-out of the season in what was shaping up to be a game featuring two of the premier teams in the league. However, a strong storm forced a postponement of the game and it will be played at the end of the season instead. Who knows, it could even have playoff implications.

Sox continue unbeaten streak in a wild one
2007-06-19 12:00:00
The Black Sox started off their second trip through the league by earning a 3-3 tie with the Selects. The Sox got a fantastic pitching performance from Matt Young, but unfortunately could not string together enough runs for him to get the win. The Sox ran into a tough pitcher that they usually have problems with in Doug Hoffman. With the score 0-0 going into the home half of the 6th, Jeff Laythorpe lead the inning off with a triple. He was plated by the sacrifice fly from John Scopu. The Sox took the field in the 7th and got the first two outs and then made a few errors to give the Selects a 3-1 lead. However, the Black Sox wouldn’t roll over and showed some fortitude by stringing together a few hits and were aided by some errors to come back and finish with a 3-3 tie, earning a point in the standings that could come in handy later on.

GAME MVP: Jeff Laythorpe

The Sox use power in cooling the Thunder
2007-06-15 12:00:00
Playing the game with only nine guys, the Sox took the field against Casey Halstead one of the top pitchers in the ISCII ranks and scored six times off him en route to a 6-3 victory. The Sox extended their winning streak to six games and took over first place in the KFL with the victory. Scott Robinson had a stellar pitching performance and had some defensive gems behind him to help. However the real story of the game was the three home runs hit by the Sox. Going deep were Chris Dietrich, John Scopu, and Jeff Kolb who hit the ball onto Homer Watson Blvd. We are still wondering if the ball has landed yet.

GAME MVP: Jeff Kolb

Breslau tames the Bulldogs
2007-06-13 12:00:00
The boys continued their winning ways with a strong 8-2 victory over the Bulldogs. Matt Young took the mound looking like his older brother out there with a strong pitching performance. Matt was mowing hitters down with ease and looked very comfortable and confident with his pitching arsenal. Chris Dietrich continued his power surge by nearly missing a grand slam when he hit a ground rule double and in his next at bat hit the ball further, going yard for the second time in three games. Marc Geddes and Chris Schuett also chipped in going two for two each in a total team victory.

GAME MVP: Matt Young

Sox win fourth straight!
2007-06-06 12:00:00
The Black Sox added to their current winning streak with a strong 7-2 victory over the Cambridge Reds. Marc Geddes took the mound for the Sox and pitched a gem giving up only two runs on the way to the victory. The Sox offense broke out in huge way by hitting three home runs. Going deep where John Scopu, Scott Perchaluk and, hitting his first in a Sox uniform, was Deni Spencer. Cory Bluhm also chipped in going three for three and knocking in another two runs.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Congrats!
2007-06-03 12:00:00
Congratulations goes out to Cory Bluhm who got engaged while away in Europe. Other Black Sox getting married this year are Jeff Laythorpe, Tim Bartram, and Scott Perchaluk. As well, Scott Robinson will be adding another member to his family as he and his wife are expecting their second child in October.

Sox double up the Predators
2007-06-01 12:00:00
The Sox hit double digits for the first time in the young season by doubling up on the Predators 10-5. The Predators used an unusual pitching strategy as they had four different pitchers throw in the seven inning game. However, it didn’t matter what they where throwing because the Sox where finding holes all over the field. Leading the way with strong offensive performances where Chris Schuett, John Scopu and, once again, Chris Dietrich who hit another home run and had four RBIs. Chris Young took the hill and showed a glimpse of his old self throwing several nasty drop balls and making the Predators look off keel while mixing up pitches.

GAME MVP: Chris Dietrich

Black Sox ring the Bell
2007-05-30 12:00:00
Marc Geddes picked up his first win of the season with a strong outing against Bell Cartage. Geddes looked strong for all seven innings and had some defensive gems behind him, including several great plays made by John Scopu on the hot corner. John continued his strong play in the batter's box as he hit the go ahead two run homer to deep left field. Jeff Kolb also chipped in by driving in two runs and a gutsy steal of third base. After losing two games in a row, the Black Sox got back to their winning ways and have strung together back to back wins.

GAME MVP: John Scopu

Welcome back
2007-05-27 12:00:00
The Breslau Black Sox are happy to welcome Jason Clayfield (minus his beautiful golden locks) back to the roster. Jason now gives the Black Sox three solid catchers for the rest of the season. He will be joining new comers Deni Spencer and Kyal Aitken calling the signs behind the dish.

Breslau gets back in the win column
2007-05-25 12:00:00
Scott Robinson took the ball for the Black Sox trying to break their two game losing streak as the Sox took on the Shakespeare Falcons. In what turned out to be nail biter of a game, the Sox prevailed with a 5-4 win. The game went back and forth until Tim Bartram stepped up and hit his first career home run. John Scopu, Deni Spencer, and Steve Jenereaux also chipped in adding RBIs. The Sox also showed some great moxy in the field by coming up with several key defensive gems throughout the game.

GAME MVP: Tim Bartram

Sox get gunned down by the Outlaws
2007-05-24 12:00:00
The Black Sox where smoked by the top team in the KFL for the past two seasons, the Outlaws. Nothing could go right for the boys in black as no one reached base. The few Sox highlights where Chris Young and his younger brother Matt actually making some positive contact with the ball as they put the ball in play. The Sox look to put up a better effort next time.

GAME MVP: Jeff Laythorpe

Sox lose a tough one
2007-05-23 12:00:00
The Black Sox got a chance at redemption as they took on the Classics, the team that has knocked them out in the semis for the past two seasons. Marc Geddes got the call for the Sox and he was looking to rebound after a rough 2006 where he pitched the season with a partially torn rotator cuff. Marc threw a gem of a game but unfortunately the Sox came up short losing on a walk off home run in the bottom of the 7th. The Sox showed some guts tying the game in the top of the 7th after trailing 3-1. The Sox were lead offensively by Jeff Laythorpe who went 2-3 and scored two runs. Chris Young came up with some timely hitting as he chipped in two RBIs.

GAME MVP: Marc Geddes

Breslau takes on rival Smoke
2007-05-18 12:00:00
Matt Young got his first start of the season and got a chance to establish his pitching presence as he faced a classic rival. With the Sox looking to get off to a good start against their arch-rival, they instead saw the exact opposite. The Smoke put up two quick runs early in the game but the Black Sox game back strong and answered with seven runs. Lil' Younger bounced back strong the rest of the game and eventually handed the ball over to Scott Robinson. The boys from the “Slau” were lead by another strong offensive performance from Chris Dietrich who lead the way with a home run and three RBIs. He also showed off his classic Kirk Gibson fist pump as he rounded second. Kyal Aitken also scored two runs after reaching base on two walks.

GAME MVP: Chris Dietrich

The boys in black start the season right
2007-05-15 12:00:00
The Black Sox started off the season with a big win beating up on the Selects 12-6. Breslau, a traditionally slow starting team, came out with a big offensive performance lead by Jeff Kolb, Chris Dietrich, and Jeff Laythorpe who all had multi-hit games. The big blast came off the bat of Jeff Kolb who hit the first home run of the young season and took the Selects offering to the deepest part of the park. On the mound, Scott Robinson pitched a strong opener and handed the ball over to one of the newer additions of the team, Matt Young, who closed out the game strong.

GAME MVP: Chris Dietrich

Play Ball!!
2007-05-13 12:00:00
The Black Sox are ready to take on the KFL again as they prepare to start their fifth season. The Sox look to get over the hump this season as they try to make their first appearance in the finals. For the past two seasons, they have been bounced in the semis by the Classics after playing some tremendous regular season ball.

Along with the twenty regular season games, the Sox will be participating in two tournaments as they will be making their return to the Ponsonby and Desboro tournies with the hope of winning some money like they have in the past.
